Biography

David Ekue

Beauty Revealer

Born from the encounter between an engineer''s rigor and a seamstress''s creativity, my journey is an ode to structure and aesthetics. French-Togolese, born in 1975, I was nurtured by two cultures, a duality that has sharpened my eye and my sensitivity.

My true passion is not photography itself, but highlighting the female body. It''s a fascination that dates back to adolescence, to the hours spent in front of Fashion TV shows, captivated by the elegance of silhouettes designed by great creators. Photography is now my medium to sublimate women, to sculpt light around their forms. Tomorrow, who knows, it might be a cinema camera.

The Spark

My adventure began in the early 2000s, in contact with the world of amateur models. By creating websites for them, I discovered a universe that spoke to me immediately. The purchase of my first camera, a Konica Minolta Dimage A1 in 2003, marked a turning point. It was while observing the photographer William Bonbon handle my own camera that the obvious became clear: I too had to get behind the lens.

The Journey

The first sessions, intimate and familial, quickly gave way to broader collaborations with models, makeup artists, stylists, and hairdressers. Key encounters, like the one with Joël Dart, pushed me to professionalize my approach, leading to my first test in a modeling agency in 2006. It was that same year that I officially embraced the career of a professional photographer. Another deep and lasting collaboration, with my assistant Soniyah Lawson, continues to enrich my work daily.

Each encounter, each session is another stone added to the edifice of my artistic vision: to celebrate the beauty and power of the female body.

After the success of the 2019 exhibition, David is currently preparing his return to Togo with a new major project planned for October 2026.
